The archive is open to researchers worldwide. However, primarily for security reasons, researchers must not visit the archives and storage rooms without the intention of conducting research.
Opening hours
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 09:00 to 13:00 from October 1 to June 30
The archive will be closed during the Christmas holidays and Holy Week, as well as on May 15 and June 5, 2026.
We ask for registration!
Autographs (letters, sheet music), graphics, musical instruments and similar items must be ordered several days before the archive visit. All other objects can be ordered on-site. Please note that not all items can be ordered for conservation reasons.
Scientific inquiries should state the research topic, possibly the institution and the purpose of the research.

The more precisely you let us know what you need and for what purpose, the better we can support you.
Context
For university theses, please state the title and the name of the supervisor (seminar paper, Master’s thesis, dissertation).
Time frame & Sources
If the request refers to a literature source, please name the source. Autographs (letters, sheet music) and plastic objects must be ordered by email several days before the archive visit.
Visit to the archive
It is necessary to register for a user seat in the study hall at the archive. Please familiarize yourself with the basic literature on your research topic beforehand. Our online catalogue is available for a preliminary research into the musical material owned by the archive. Kindly note that our catalogue in not yet complete but constantly expanding.
Photo ID & User sheet
A Photo identification is required in order to attend the premises of the archive. Please note that coats and bags are to be left in the garderobe. During the first visit, a user form must be completed, in which important information such as contact details, research topic, supervisor etc must be stated.
Internet access
WLAN is available in the archive.
Reproductions
Taking photos in any way as well as making unauthorized copies is strictly prohibited. However, you may order digital copies.
