Under the title ‘night flowers’, pianist, performer, conductor and composer Marino Formenti has curated a series of short nocturnal sounds which, like the entire Musikverein Festival, are dedicated to Beethoven's walking stick. They revolve around performative or musical movements, but above all around real and symbolic journeys – around genuine migrations.
“In the footsteps of Beethoven the walker – with a walking stick and symphonies in your ears: nine walks.” (Georg Nussbaumer)
The work, commissioned especially for the festival by the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, can be heard in the Durchfahrt on the following dates: 18, 21, 25, 28, 29 April & 2 May
Four designated armchairs serving as listening stations in the foyers – a tribute to the composer Peter Ablinger (1959–2025), who conceived installations of this kind as special ‘places of listening’ and pursued a radically conceptual approach that was not without poetic implications.

The Musikverein Festival 2026 is all about movement! In Mauricio Kagel's ‘Eine Brise’ (A Breeze), 111 cyclists ride laps around the Musikverein, creating a lively soundscape – from ringing bells and honking horns to singing and cheerful whistling.
